What movie should I watch?

I like movies with a good STORY - something meaty - not a lot of action and effects, just something that gets me to thing,
Recently I've watched and enjoyed Precious, Angels and Insects, Quills and Bleak House (it doesn't necessarily have to be a costume drama though lol).
I have recently watched and HATED Sherlock Holmes, The Blind Side, and most other movies.
Suggestions! What is a really good film (if it is ultra popular I probably have already seen it)
