How to choreograph a dance routine?

I want to start a dance troupe and i am trying to make some cool maybe intermediate dance routines to have a base. I've already picked out a song (Jai Ho) but i am having trouble finding more and making the actual dance. I always forget something i've made up or can't get any solid moves (there like not clear and to subtle). I just need advice on how to memorize and create a nice dance routine. Song suggestions, and costume companies would be nice!

videotape yourself to remember. start by just dancing around by yourself and be creative (dont even try to choreograph, just feel the music and dance however you want!) something will come to you and itll be a moment of genius! lol but definately videotape that way once you have the final tape, your students can learn from the tape at home as well as in the studio
